    Summary

    A separate legal entity from Sprint, the Sprint Foundation makes a huge impact where it is needed most, supporting hundreds of organizations every year that focus on education, arts and culture, youth development, community development and disaster relief. Through direct grants, the Sprint Foundation acts as a champion for our communities.
     
    The Sprint Foundation's funding priorities are:
    • Education – The Sprint Foundation is committed to supporting urban K-12 education and has a particular focus on character-education initiatives for this important age range.
    • Arts and culture – The Sprint Foundation supports visual and performing arts organizations, theatres, symphonies, museums, and other cultural organizations and activities that contribute to a thriving and diverse community.
    • Youth development – The Sprint Foundation supports mentoring programs, leadership initiatives, social skills, volunteerism, and programs that support business and economic education for youth. We support programs like Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire, and Boys and Girls Clubs.
    • Community development – Sprint and the Sprint Foundation support regional initiatives that contribute to a strong civic infrastructure and a vibrant, healthy and sustainable community.
    • Disaster relief – Sprint and the Sprint Foundation support emergency relief and rebuilding efforts in order to help families and entire communities get back on their feet.
     

    History of Funding

    Since its establishment in 1989, the Sprint Foundation has provided millions of dollars to community organizations across the country. The Sprint Foundation has given a total of $268,621 in grants in 2016.

    Additional Information

    Ineligible Requests The Sprint Foundation is unable to fund requests for the following groups or programs:
    • Individuals
    • Political organizations (including lobbying orga-nizations or causes, candidates, organizations or campaign fundraisers)
    • Private charities or foundations
    • Organizations not exempt under Section 501c3 of the Internal Revenue Code
    • Organizations that advocate religious beliefs or restrict participation on the basis of religion
    • Requests to support travel, conference or seminar costs
    • Film, music, TV, video, radio, broadcast and media–production projects
    • International organizations or individuals or organizations based in the United States that support international organizations.
    • School-affiliated teams, including sports, bands/choirs or events
    • Marketing, sports, event sponsorships (these are handled through the Sprint Sponsorships organization, which can be reached via sprint. com/sponsorships)
    • Endowments, capital campaigns, memorial, construction and renovation projects
    The Sprint Foundation does not sponsor film, music, TV, broadcast or media productions.

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are 501c3  non profit organizations. Giving is focused on the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. Grants outside this area are considered on a case-by-case basis. The Sprint Foundation does not fund individuals or private foundations, and the Sprint Foundation only supports organizations that are tax–exempt IRS–qualified 501(c)(3) public charities.

    Deadline Details

    The Sprint Foundation only accepts proposals online. Applications can be found on the program page. The Sprint Foundation accepts grant requests January through the third Thursday in November every year. The formal grant-review process takes up to 90 days.

    Award Details

    Awards vary based on scope and size of project. Awards are up to $100,000.
